New York swallow specialist

Are you Looking for a Swallowing Specialist in New York?

NDoscopy Dysphagia Specialists are experts in normal and abnormal swallowing.  The company name provides information on what we do.  Dysphagia means difficulty swallowing.  NDoscopy is used instead of Endoscopy because the owners name is Nicole DePalma (ND).  She studied medical speech-language pathology at New York Medical College after graduating from Georgetown University.  Her company specializes in performing Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) to patients in the Greater New York area.  If you are located in the New York City area, then look no further for a swallowing specialist.

New York Swallow Experts at NDoscopy can Directly View the Swallowing

We cannot treat a swallowing issue if we are not able to directly view what’s occurring during the swallowing!

NDoscopy Dysphagia Specialists use state of the art technology to diagnose swallowing disorders.  A small endoscope with a camera is passed through the nose to view the larynx (voice box).

Our experts can determine if any food or liquid is going into the airway.  When food, liquid, secretions or other material enters the airway, this is termed aspiration.  Aspiration pneumonia can develop in fragile populations.  NDoscopy can also assess for the reason the patient is having difficulty swallowing.  When swallow physiology is assessed, we can then provide an individualized treatment program.

Here is an example of a flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) video of a patient with a stroke with difficulty swallowing thin liquids.  The patient presented with aspiration before the swallow.  You can see in the video that the liquids enter into the laryngeal vestibule prior to airway closure.  She presented with a cough reflex, which reduced but did not eliminate aspiration.

Swallow therapy was able to address her dysphagia to use strategies to drink regular liquids.
